Cabinet to renew K2 Airways’license to kick off domestic flights

Islamabad: The government of PTI is set to give go-ahead to a new airline M/S K2 Airways (Pvt) Limited to join fleet of existing airlines in Pakistan to kick off commercial domestic flights.

K2 Airways Pvt Ltd, Pakistan was a new airline that was set to kick off commercial passenger operation in Pakistan by first quarter of ongoing year with operation on domestic routes within Pakistan. However, it had not started operation yet. K2 Airways shall be operating latest generation Turbo-Prop Passenger Aircrafts which are known for their excellent operational economics and utilization while delivering passenger convenience & comfort.

MS/K2 Airways (Pvt) Limited is making concrete efforts to obtain the air operator certificate including acquirement of sufficient space, availability of essential manuals and documents, set up engineering and maintenance, operational arrangements, placement of management and personnel team and shortlisting of aircraft.

Sources told Newztodays.com that cabinet scheduled to meet on Monday is set to take up the matter of renewing license of M/S K2 Airways (Pvt) Limited. The management of this airline had applied for renewal of its charter license class-11 domestic. Under Aviation Policy 2019, validity regarding issuance and renewal period of all kind of Air Transport Licenses shall be for two years. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had recommended renewal of the charter licenses class-11 domestic of K2 Airways (Pvt) Limited for a period of two years with effect from May 29, 2019 to May 29, 2021.

Flight Standards, finance and airworthiness directorates of CAA had no objection to renewal of the charter license class-11 domestic of K2 Airways (pvt) Limited. Moreover, MS/K2 Airways (Pvt) Limited had made concrete efforts to obtain the air operator certificate including acquirement of sufficient space, availability of essential manuals and documents, set up engineering and maintenance, operational arrangements, placement of management and personnel team and shortlisting of aircraft.

Under rule 177 (1) of the Civil Aviation Rules 1994 the federal government is competent to approve grant of various kinds of licenses to airlines to carry out operations. K2 Airways (pvt) Limited meets the mandatory requirement for renewal of its charter license class -11 domestic including the loss-free paid capital amounting to Rs 73.38 million.

K2 Airways from Pakistan was second airline that had joined Hitit’s network of airlines partners. The new partnership was launched with a signing ceremony in Dubai in January this year. With K2 Airways, Hitit has enhanced its position in Pakistan, after the successful migration of the national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) last September. Hitit, named one of the Top 5 PSS providers in the field of airline and travel IT systems had committed to provide K2 Airways with its Crane product suite.
