Govt turns down a proposal of bearing burden of Rs 490 million to waive off gas bills

ISLAMABAD: The government has turned down a proposal of giving subsidy worth Rs 490 million to gas consumers on the system of both utilities by waiving off bills for one month in wake of coronavirus lockdown.

however, it decided to pay bills in instalments.

Sources told Newztodays.com that Petroleum Division had given a presentation to the Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday that government would require Rs 490 million to waive off gas bills of the gas utilities across the country.

They said that Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) that operates in Punjab and KPK provinces would require Rs 400 million subsidies to waive off bills of gas in both provinces.

However, the gas utility SSGCL would be required Rs 90 million to waive off bills for the consumers of gas in Sindh and Balochistan province.
