Mamnoon spends Rs 278 million on foreign visits

Islamabad Former President Mamnoon Hussain has spent Rs 278.2 million on foreign trips during his 5-year stay in the PML-N government.

During PML-N tenure 2013-18, an amount of Rs 2.373 billion was spent by former Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on 142 foreign visits. Nawaz Sharif spent Rs 1.83 billion on 92 foreign visits and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Rs 259.59 million on 19 foreign visits. Former President Mamnoon Hussain spent Rs 278.2 million on 31 foreign trips.

During PPP tenure 2008-2013, an amount of Rs 2.1 billion was spent by former Prime Ministers Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Yousuf Raza Gilani and former president Asif Ali Zardari on 191 foreign visits. Zardari spent Rs 1.42 billion on 134 foreign visits, Gliani Rs 571.6 million on 48 visits and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Rs 107.1 million on 9 visits during 2012-2013.

The country was facing acute shortage of foreign reserves and lavish spending was being made on foreign trips at that time. The billion of rupees were wasted on the upkeep of camp officers, unauthorized use of airplanes, profuse entertainment and medical treatment abroad by the former Presidents, Prime Ministers and their family members. The government has decided now to retrieve the misused money from the beneficiaries through the laid down procedure.
