Islamabad: Pakistan has operationalized the Gwadar Port for trade to Afghanistan under Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit trade agreement (APTTA) 2010.
The move will also jump start port operations in Gwadar port and create the necessary eco-system for another big seaport of Pakistan, advisor to Prime Minister on Commerce Razaak Dawood said in a tweet.
‘I am pleased to share with you that minsitry of commerce has operationalized Gwadar Port for Afghan transit trade under APTTA 2010, he said adding that shipments of sugar, fertilizer and wheat would be transported in sealed trucks to Afghanistan.
In this regard, 16000 metrics tons of DAP and WFP cargo will arrive next month. Ships from China will also offload at Gwadar Port.
This fulfills the long standing request of business community and the shipping industry paving the way for generating business opportunities and employment both in Gwadar and along highways, Dawood added.
