Parveen Rehman’s murder: FIA starts probe against Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz

Islamabad: The real estate business tycoon and Chief Executive Bahria Town Malik Riaz has landed in hot water as Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a probe against him for allegedly involved in murder of Ms Parveen Rehman.

The terrorism wing of FIA headquarter has issued notice to Malik Riaz to appear on October 28, 2019.

‘’You are directed to come up with your written statements and all other documentary and oral evidences in connection with the queries regarding murder of Ms Parveen Rehman Director Orangi Pilot Project. She was murdered by two unknown accused on March 13, 2013, FIA said in a notice issued to Malik Riaz.

FIA said that it had been alleged that the deceased Ms Parveen Rehman was a social worker and she was accommodating the poor people who were occupying the land in Goths of Karachi for regularization through government.

Parveen Rehman, a social worker had devoted her life to the development of the impoverished neighbourhoods across the country. She was killed near her office in Karachi’s Orangi Town on March 13, 2013.

The very next day, police had gunned down a Taliban operative named Qari Bilal in an encounter. The Police had claimed that he was the murderer that resulted in a closure of the case.  The Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered authorities to conduct a fresh probe into Parveen Rehman’s murder in April 2014 after a judicial inquiry had revealed that police officers had manipulated the investigation.
