Islamabad: Pakistan has relaxed a policy to grant work visa to 2511 Chinese nationals working on China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) to speed construction work on different projects.
Thousands of Chinese nationals are working on CPEC and non-CPEC projects. According to policy, visas issued by missions cannot be changed for any reason in Pakistan.
Under a policy, Chinese nationals initially come Pakistan on visit visas and then get visit visa extensions instead of going back on the expiry of their visas and come back on work visa. Now, government of Pakistan has granted one-time dispensation to 2511 Chinese nationals to change their visit visas into work visas free of Charge to speed construction work on different projects.
Embassy of China through ministry of foreign affairs had informed that there were 2511 Chinese technical and managerial personnel holding passports for public affairs in Pakistan. Most of them are from China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) and non-CPEC projects invested by China’s state owned enterprises (SOEs) and some are teachers from public universities.
Chinese Embassy had informed that if they go back to China to Change their visa, the construction speed of those projects will be hindered. Chinese Embassy had requested government of Pakistan to grant permission in principle as one time dispensation to Chinese nationals to change their visit visas into work visas in Pakistan free of Charge. The government has granted one time dispensation to Chinese nationals to change their visit visas into work visas in Pakistan free of charge.
