Whatsapp campaign: Boycott firms causing petrol crisis, buy petrol from PSO outlets

Islamabad: Buy oil from Pakistan State Oil (PSO) which was rescuer in petrol crisis and boycott those oil marketing companies (OMCs) involved in in hoarding and blacking marketing products leading to severe crisis during last month.

This is what is being circulated on Whatsapp requesting to penalize those companies who penalized the consumers during last month by curtailing petrol to their retail outlets and deprived the consumers of cheaper fuel.

These companies include Shell, Total, Attock Petroleum, Hascol, Puma and Go. There is request on Whatsapp message to buy petrol from state-run OMC—PSO—as its retail outlets provided petrol during the crisis from the last three months.

The campaign this time, along with twitter or face book, mostly circulated through Whatsapp requesting the petrol consumers of boycotting the products of those OMCs including Shell, Total, Attock Petroleum, Hascol, Puma and Go and prefer the purchase of petrol from state-run OMC—PSO—as its retail outlets provided petrol during the crisis from the last three months.

After a top trend of “Qaum Ka Teel Nikal Dia” on Twitter the other day, another social media campaign—ArrestOilMafia—has just appeared against those Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), who remain dry and unable to offer POL products during the whole month of June, for boycotting the products of these OMCs after Federal Government increased prices on Friday to the previous level.

The campaign this time, along with twitter or face book, mostly circulated through Whatsapp requesting the petrol consumers of boycotting the products of those OMCs including Shell, Total, Attock Petroleum, Hascol, Puma and Go and prefer the purchase of petrol from state-run OMC—PSO—as its retail outlets provided petrol during the crisis from the last three months.

Tweeter’s second top trend–#ArrestOilMafia—on the second consecutive day was heading on the social media after on Friday (June 26), PTI Government has announced of increasing POL prices prior level of March 2020 again crossing Rs 100 level per litre.

One of the journalists working for foreign digital webpage supported this campaign of purchasing POL products from state-run-oil monopoly–PSO rather than private and foreign OMCs, operating in Pakistan.

Opposition parties the other day in National Assembly during debate on federal budget also rejected PTI government’s move of increasing POL prices whereas some civil society member also stage protest in the capital of Punjab, the largest province of the country where PTI and its allied party ruled.

Another Tweeter user suggests that sudden increase in POL prices was just to damage control of PM, Imran Khan’s statement in Parliament for terming OBL martyr as it was widely criticized both inside and outside Pakistan.

Since the announcement of increase in POL prices, the sitting government is facing criticism from the social media along with private Tv channel and newspaper. On Saturday early in the morning, Information Minister, Senator Shibli Fraz was quoting by Jang newspaper as saying him that the increase in POL prices is less than what the Finance Ministry proposed!!!!

On the same day, Federal Minister for Petroleum opined in a Press Conference that the said increase in POL is also less than the prevailing prices of the products in the region and the minister was asked by the tweeter users that compare the other indicators of economies of the region as well.

Last but not least, PMLN also released the comparison of POL prices during the last two years of their tenure and 22 months of PTI regime and it was widely circulated on social media as well.
