Huawei Offers Pakistan to Set Up a National Data Center
Staff Report: A Chinese Tech Giant Huawei has offered Pakistan to establish a National Data Center to boost cloud services.

A four-member delegation led by Huawei Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Ethan Sun met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the ongoing collaboration and future projects between Huawei and Pakistan.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of the collaboration with Huawei in providing modern information technology training across various fields, especially targeting the youth. He noted that the partnership with Huawei is crucial for increasing the country’s IT exports by offering professional IT training to 300,000 Pakistani students annually.
“The government prioritizes including not only women but also the youth of Balochistan in this training program,” said Prime Minister Sharif.
He further highlighted the government’s commitment to sustainable partnerships with Huawei to bolster Pakistan’s digital economy. “A strong base of talented workforce is essential to boost the digital economy,” he added.
Prime Minister Sharif also stressed the necessity of digitizing government institutions to implement an automated, modern, and faster governance system.
The delegation briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of ongoing projects under the Cooperation Agreement between Pakistan and Huawei for the Digital Pakistan Program. They revealed the development of a modern Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) system for IT training, which will be implemented in collaboration with provincial governments.
In addition, the delegation offered support for building a national data center in line with Pakistan’s national cloud strategy, stating that establishing a National Data Center would ensure better cloud services and significant cost savings.
Huawei also expressed interest in partnering with the Pakistani government to make Islamabad a smart city. The Islamabad Smart City project aims to provide digital platforms for traffic, health, education services, parking, and other facilities.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ahsan Afzal, and other senior officials.
CEO Ethan Sun, along with his delegation, called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to further strengthen the cooperation between Huawei and Pakistan, underscoring their commitment to the country’s digital transformation.
