Maryam Launches Phase-II of Honhaar Scholarship Scheme in Chakwal

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched Phase-II of the Honhaar Scholarship Scheme in Rawalpindi Division with a ceremony at the University of Chakwal.

Students gave her a standing ovation on arrival, as she mingled with them and joined conversations, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere throughout the event.

A visually impaired student performed the national anthem on piano and was presented with a special award, while another was assisted personally by the chief minister.

Students also performed patriotic songs, adding an emotional touch to the ceremony, where a police contingent presented a Guard of Honour on Maryam Nawaz instruction.

Scholarship recipients Arida Akhtar and Ammar Khalid shared experiences of empowerment through laptops and scholarships, while a documentary on scheme’s evolution was also screened.

Maryam Nawaz distributed laptops and cheques among students, who praised her leadership and described her as a motherly figure supporting their educational journey.

She invited Deputy Commissioner Chakwal Sarah Hayat to the stage, lauding her as an inspiring role model for young girls pursuing careers in administration.

Officials briefed that in Phase-I, 40,000 laptops were distributed, while Phase-II will cover 33,311 students along with 20,000 merit-based scholarships across universities.

The scholarship programme attracted 153,000 applicants, of which 130,000 were verified, and 20,000 will receive support based strictly on academic merit.

Phase-III will expand the scheme to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, covering thousands of students across these regions.

Ceremonies for distribution have already been held in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Layyah, further extending the scheme’s outreach across Punjab and beyond.
