Gilani Opens Up on Why She Quit JPNA Films
Renowned Pakistani actor Sarwat Gilani has confirmed that she will not reprise her role as Gul in the Jawani Phir Nahi Ani film series, citing disrespect.
In a recent interview with critic Maliha Rehman, Sarwat shared that while she enjoyed working with the team, her experience afterward was disappointing.
She mentioned appreciating director Nadeem Baig, writer Vasay Chaudhry, and producer Humayun Saeed, but their attitude after filming made her reconsider working with them.
“I am running from the third part,” she remarked, explaining that her interactions with some team members after filming ended were disheartening and unprofessional.
Gilani recalled that during the JPNA 2 promotions, she had bought tickets for the London tour but received no confirmation from the team.
She said that being ignored after completing her work felt disrespectful and hurtful, as artists deserve acknowledgment and courtesy even after filming ends.
The Churails star also criticized how her character Gul was written, stating that it lacked closure in both the first and second films.

She revealed that despite raising creative concerns, her feedback was disregarded, which made her feel her role was used without proper narrative respect.
“They used the character when needed and discarded it later, which is neither professional nor acceptable,” she stated while expressing her frustration.
Calling it a matter of dignity, she said she would not work with people who fail to maintain basic professional respect once the project concludes.
She emphasized that self-respect comes before any opportunity and said, “Fool me once, but not again,” highlighting her stance on professional boundaries.
Although she has distanced herself from the JPNA franchise, Gilani remains focused on new ventures, including her upcoming television project titled Biryani.
She shared that she does not chase roles but believes meaningful and strong characters naturally find their way to deserving actors.
Gilani expressed her desire to portray raw, complex, and challenging roles that push her artistic limits and allow her to explore different emotional dimensions.
