AWS Outage Hits Snapchat, Canva, Robinhood Globally

Thousands of users across the globe faced major service disruptions on Monday as Amazon Web Services experienced a significant outage affecting numerous popular apps and websites.

The outage began around 12 pm IST, impacting platforms such as Snapchat, Robinhood, Canva, PUBG, Perplexity AI, and Coinbase in multiple regions worldwide.

Data from Down Detector showed a sharp increase in user complaints, with Snapchat alone receiving over 14,000 outage reports from users unable to access the platform.

Amazon Web Services acknowledged the problem on its status page, confirming elevated error rates and delays affecting multiple services in the US-EAST-1 region, including DynamoDB endpoints and support APIs.

The company stated that technical teams were actively investigating the issue while simultaneously working to mitigate its impact and process the growing backlog of queued service requests.

Later updates indicated that many affected services were beginning to recover, although some global functions dependent on US-EAST-1 endpoints, such as IAM updates and DynamoDB Global tables, remained disrupted.

The outage also created problems for users in India, with several reporting interruptions while accessing Snapchat, Canva, PUBG, and Perplexity AI during high-traffic hours on Monday.

For individuals and businesses relying on AWS-powered platforms, the outage caused delays in logins, app functionality, and access to content, showing the extensive dependence on cloud infrastructure.

Amazon Web Services confirmed it would continue sharing updates until all affected services were fully restored and emphasized that mitigation and recovery operations were ongoing across the affected regions.
