Major Cities See Sugar Prices Jump Drastically
Sugar prices have surged across Pakistan, rising between Rs5.45 and Rs45 per kilogram over the past month, affecting consumers in major urban centers nationwide.
In Rawalpindi, sugar prices increased from Rs185 to Rs190 per kilogram, while Islamabad saw rates rise to between Rs185 and Rs190 from Rs180 previously.
Peshawar experienced a modest increase as sugar rates moved from Rs190 to Rs195 per kilogram, reflecting a steady upward trend seen in other major cities.
Lahore recorded a significant jump in sugar prices, rising from Rs179 to Rs200 per kilogram, marking one of the highest increases among all urban markets.
Karachi and Quetta also reported price hikes, with sugar now selling between Rs195 and Rs200 per kilogram, up from previous levels of Rs190 per kilogram.

Faisalabad experienced the steepest surge, as sugar prices jumped from Rs185 to Rs230 per kilogram, while Multan saw an increase to Rs200 per kilogram from Rs185.
These sharp increases in sugar rates have raised concerns among households, retailers, and government authorities regarding affordability and the stability of supplies.
Bakers in Rawalpindi have also announced a tandoor shutter-down strike on October 28 in protest against the steep rise in flour prices affecting daily operations.
Flour costs have surged sharply, with an 80-kg sack of fine flour now crossing Rs 11,700, while red flour prices have jumped above Rs 10,500, squeezing bakers’ margins.
Following the price hike, the cost of naan has increased from Rs 30 to Rs 35, and oily naan is now being sold at Rs 60 instead of Rs 50.
