YouTube has introduced new filters in its advanced search tools, including a Shorts filter designed to help users find longer videos more easily.

The Shorts filter allows users to remove videos that are three minutes or less from search results.

By separating Shorts as a distinct content type, the platform enables viewers to avoid short-form clips when searching for longer videos.

The update addresses a common issue faced by users looking for detailed or explanatory content.

Many searches previously returned large numbers of brief videos, making it harder to find longer clips, particularly after an increase in AI-generated content last year using Google’s Veo 3 engine.

To use the new feature, users can open YouTube’s advanced search tools and apply the Shorts filter to exclude short-form videos. Once activated, search results will display only longer videos.

YouTube has also adjusted other parts of its search system. The “Sort By” option has been renamed “Prioritize” to reflect how results are ranked.

It has replaced the “View Count” filter with “Popularity,” allowing watch time to be considered alongside views when ranking videos. This change is intended to highlight videos that users continue watching.

Some earlier search options have been removed, including “Upload Date – Last Hour” and “Sort by Rating.”

YouTube said the updated tools aim to deliver better search results by focusing on viewer engagement rather than short-form volume.
