The Flood Forecasting Division in Lahore has issued a flash flood warning as a strong westerly wave is expected to impact upper parts of Pakistan.

The warning covers the period from the evening of 21 January to 24 January 2026, with flows in River Kabul and its tributaries likely rising significantly.

Moderate to isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected over upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Chitral, Buner, Shangla, Dir, Malakand, and Bajur districts in total.

Other areas under alert include Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Haripur, Kolai-Palas, Kohistan, and parts of Kashmir, where flash flooding risks cannot be ruled out.

Authorities have emphasized that the combination of rainfall, snowfall, and rising river flows increases the possibility of flash flooding across all affected upper region areas.

All concerned organizations, including PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, district administrations, and the field formation of the Irrigation Department, have been advised to remain on high alert continuously.

Officials have urged precautionary measures to safeguard human lives, protect private and public property, and maintain critical irrigation and flood protection infrastructure ahead of the expected weather events.
