Major Gas Theft Network Busted in Murree: Successful Operation Against a Local Hotel

Lahore: As part of its nationwide campaign against gas theft and Unaccounted for Gas (UFG) reduction, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Islamabad Region, in collaboration with DC Murree and Murree Police, successfully dismantled an illegal gas network operating at a local Hotel located in Lower Bazaar, Murree.
According to the spokesperson, on 08 July 2026, an SNGPL Islamabad Region team, with the assistance of DC Murree and Police Station Kaldana, conducted a raid based on confidential intelligence.

During the operation, the hotel’s gas meter and LPG cylinders were disconnected; however, the gas appliances continued to operate. This prompted further investigation, which led to the discovery of an approximately 40-meter-long illegal PPR pipeline directly connected to SNGPL’s main distribution pipeline on Mall Road, Murree.

The SNGPL team immediately removed the illegal pipeline, fittings, and valves and took them into custody. The gas meter was also seized, and the service line was permanently disconnected from the main distribution network. All documentary, video, and photographic evidence was secured at the site to facilitate legal proceedings in accordance with the Company’s policy and to assess the exact volume of stolen gas.
Preliminary estimates indicate that natural gas worth approximately Rs. 20 million was illegally consumed through the direct connection. The amount will be recovered from the concerned consumer in accordance with SNGPL’s rules and regulations.
