PPL discovers gas and condensate in Sindh

KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has made a gas and condensate discovery from its exploratory well Rahi X-1 in Shah Bandar Block located in District Sujawal, Sindh. This is the fourth consecutive discovery in Shah Bandar Block by PPL as operator with 63% Working Interest (WI) along with joint venture partners Mari Energies Limited with 32% WI, while Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited & Government Holdings Private Limited has 2.5% WI each.

According to a statement issued by a company, the exploratory well Rahi X-1 was spud on June 17, 2026, and drilled down to the MD of 2,612 m to test the hydrocarbon potential of Upper Sand of Lower Goru Formation. Based on the drilling results, acquired / interpreted wireline logs data, hydrocarbon bearing zone was identified which was tested through cased hole DST.

During testing, the well flowed 0.493 MMscfd gas and 12 bbl/d condensate against the wellhead flowing pressure of 133 lb/ sq inch at 32/64″ choke from Lower Goru Upper Sands (A -Sand).
