South Korea Welcomes Pakistani Workers Under EPS Program

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) has announced that South Korea is offering new employment opportunities for Pakistanis through its Employment Permit System (EPS). This government-to-government initiative facilitates legal work placements for Pakistani laborers under the E-9 visa category.

About the EPS Program for Pakistani Workers

The EPS is a collaboration between Pakistan’s Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) and South Korea’s Human Resources Development Service (HRD Korea). It enables Pakistani nationals to find jobs in various sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and selected service industries in South Korea.

The primary aim of the program is to provide transparent recruitment procedures, including written employment contracts and full compliance with labour laws, wage protections, and workplace safety standards in South Korea.

Who is Eligible and How to Apply

Applicants must be between 18 and 39 years old, possess a valid passport, and fulfill health and other eligibility criteria. Individuals with prior unlawful stays, deportations, criminal records, or legal travel restrictions may not qualify.

Prospective candidates must pass the EPS-TOPIK test, which evaluates Korean language proficiency, especially skills related to workplaces such as factories. Preparation via official study materials focusing on relevant vocabulary and communication is highly recommended. After clearing this exam, candidates undergo further evaluations of physical fitness, job-related skills, and experience.

While passing these exams and assessments allows candidates to be listed on South Korea’s job-seeker roster, it does not guarantee employment. Final job offers depend on demand from South Korean employers who select workers based on their specific requirements.

Why It Matters for Pakistan

This opportunity is significant for Pakistani workers seeking overseas employment, particularly amid high youth unemployment domestically. The EPS provides a regulated and transparent pathway to gain valuable work experience abroad in a country known for its strong economy and labor protections.

Access to legal employment in South Korea can improve income levels for families back home and contribute positively to Pakistan’s remittance inflows. It also encourages skill development under regulated conditions, which can benefit workers upon their return.

As the Pakistani government continues to prioritize overseas employment, programs like EPS exemplify efforts to open new avenues legally and safely for the country’s workforce.

A BEOE official noted, “This program ensures that Pakistani workers have access to structured recruitment and legal protections while working in South Korea.”
