Actress Sparks Debate on Hidden Child Exploitation

Pakistani actress Nadia Jamil has reignited debate by calling attention to what she describes as a silent and deeply entrenched crisis of child prostitution in the country.

She questioned why national conversations frequently centre on LGBTQ issues while the widespread sexual exploitation of minors remains largely overlooked.

A video of Jamil addressing a group of young girls recently went viral, in which she spoke candidly about the scale of child abuse across Pakistan.

The renowed actress stressed that minors face exploitation in homes, schools, and workplaces, yet the subject is rarely acknowledged in public forums.

During her address, she referred to an investigative report by a journalist who uncovered nine child prostitution dens in Lahore and other major cities through hidden camera footage.

The viral videos reportedly showed children aged between seven and sixteen being abused, a discovery Jamil said left her devastated.

Jamil underscored that the exploitation of minors extends far beyond these dens.

She highlighted accounts of abuse at truck depots, where young boys are coerced into sexual acts, and at coal mines and factories, where several men reportedly prey on underage workers.

She also warned that homes and educational institutions are not exempt from such violations.

According to Jamil, many affected children eventually accept their situation as unchangeable, particularly boys working in truck depots and mining areas who believe they have no alternative.

She grew emotional as she questioned society’s selective outrage, noting that while many people frequently speak on other social matters, few confront the pervasive reality of child abuse.
