Azam Jamil appointed new chairman PTDC Board

The government has appointed Azam Jamil as the new chairman of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC).

Earlier, Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari had held the position of chairman. However, he had resigned in November last year.

The Cabinet Division had briefed the Cabinet in its last meeting that the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) was functioning as a corporation under the administrative control of the Cabinet Division.

PTDC was incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 as a limited company with 99.3 % shares owned by the Federal Government.

With the approval of the Federal Government, the Cabinet Division notified the composition of the National Tourism Coordination Board (NTCB) in March 2019, and vide Notification No.10-6/2074-Org-lll dated 24th August, 2O2O re-constituted the Board of Directors of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation.

According to notification of cabinet division, in the existing composition of PTDC Board of Directors, the Chairman, National Tourism Coordination Board (NTCB), the government had been appointing as Chairman, PTDC Board of Directors.

Former Chairman Board PTDC resigns

The government had appointed Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari as Chairman of the NTCB and, by virtue of his office, he also held the position of the Chairman, PTDC Board of Directors.

Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari had tendered his resignation on November 8, 2021, from the position of Chairman NTCB as well as Chairman PTDC Board of Directors. The Prime Minister had accepted the resignation of Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari.

The Prime Minister had also desired that since the government had conferred Mr. Azam Jamil, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Tourism Coordination the status of Minister of State, the government may also appoint him as director/Chairman of PTDC Board of Directors as well as Chairman of NTCB on an honorary basis.

Premier had also directed for submission of a supplementary summary for the approval of the Federal Cabinet in terms of Rule 19(3) of the Rules of Business, 1973.

The concerned ministry had sought approval of the Proposal from the cabinet.

The Cabinet considered the summary titled ‘Appointment of Chairman of PTDC Board of Directors (BoDs) and National Tourism Coordination Board (NTCB)’, the cabinet had submitted and approved the proposal.
