The National Accountability Bureau is set to launch an Online Property Information System to protect citizens from housing scams, following the collection of approved layout plans for over 1,000 housing schemes.

The initiative aims to provide information and awareness to the public, including overseas Pakistanis, about private housing schemes across the country.

“With the new online system, anyone, including those abroad, can access layout plans of private schemes and verify plot locations,” NAB Director General Waqar Chohan told Dawn.

Mr Chohan said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will soon launch the system, as NAB is ready to activate it.

The bureau described the portal as a preventive measure against the “land mafia,” bringing together provinces, regulators, and local bodies to ensure transparency.

The system allows citizens to verify the legal status, layout plans, and land availability of private housing societies, while provincial secretaries, regulators, and local governments provide verified data for a centralised national repository.
