Deadline Looms as FBR Warns Tax Evaders
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reminded taxpayers that September 30 is the final date for filing income tax returns, urging individuals and businesses to make timely submissions. Officials said accurate declarations are essential to avoid penalties and ensure compliance.
To support filers, the FBR has introduced a simplified tax return form aimed at reducing paperwork and encouraging wider participation.
The revenue body appealed to taxpayers for transparency, stressing: “Submit your income tax correctly and honestly.”
Alongside facilitation measures, the FBR has accelerated enforcement drives targeting sectors with weak compliance.
A crackdown on jewellers has been launched in major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan.

Officials revealed that of nearly 57,000 jewellers in Pakistan, only 20,000 are registered, and fewer than half of them have filed tax returns.
In Islamabad alone, inspectors identified 50 unregistered jewellers operating in one market.
The campaign has also extended to individuals flaunting wealth on social media. Authorities have gathered data on 100,000 users showcasing luxury homes, expensive vehicles, jewellery, and lavish weddings. Those failing to align their tax filings with their visible assets face legal action.
Tax experts believe this twin approach—making compliance simpler while pursuing evaders—reflects the government’s bid to expand the tax base and reduce reliance on indirect taxation.
They say sectors long outside the net, including jewellery and high-income individuals, are now firmly in focus.
