There are currently 93 million internet users and more than 45 million social media users in Pakistan and this number is steadily increasing. In view of the growing trend, the ministry has proposed a mechanism for launching public sector advertisements on digital media.

Currently, the federal government does not have a mechanism for digital media advertising. This will be the first policy of the Government of Pakistan to enable it to advertise on digital and social media platforms through the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s digital media industry is growing rapidly, and this policy will enable new digital platforms, and content creators, and provide every possible support to Pakistan’s economy. Recognition of digital media will encourage the corporate sector to adopt digital media as an advertising medium.

Dr. Arsalan Khalid briefed the Prime Minister about the Digital Media Development Program (Prime Minister’s DMDP). He said  DMDP is a multi-dimensional program to develop and enhance Pakistan’s digital media industry and bringing digital literacy to a lower level.

The DMDP aims to bridge the gap between students, the government of Pakistan and the digital media industry so that the digital media ecosystem can move towards a brighter future.

Imran Ghazali also presented the 6-month performance report of the Digital Media Wing. The Prime Minister commended the Minister for Information and Broadcasting for the steps taken by the Ministry to strengthen Pakistan’s digital media industry.
