Drivers Turn to ‘Seatbelt T-Shirt’ to Dodge Fines

A new fashion trend has taken social media by storm in Pakistan a T-shirt printed with a fake seatbelt design that gives the illusion of being safely buckled up.

The quirky garment gained instant attention as the e-challan system in the country went live in major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad.

The automated system issues digital fines to motorists caught on surveillance cameras violating traffic laws such as not wearing seatbelts, using mobile phones, or running red lights.

As e-challans began landing at the doorsteps of registered vehicle owners, some drivers turned to inventive — and misleading — tactics to avoid penalties.

The “seatbelt T-shirt,” shared widely across TikTok, Instagram, and X, became an instant hit among users joking about dodging fines through “desi hacks.”

In Karachi alone, dozens of motorists including drivers of official vehicles have already been fined for violating seatbelt and other traffic regulations under the new system.

Traffic officials, however, have cautioned against such tricks, reminding citizens that only genuine compliance with road safety rules can help avoid fines and more importantly, save lives.
