ECNEC Approves Six Mega Projects Worth Rs. 178.1Billion
ISLAMABAD: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) convened under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.ECNEC approves Pakistan Railways ML-1
The ECNEC authorized six major development initiatives totaling Rs 178.1 billion in the sectors of health, agriculture, energy, and transportation. The approved projects include:
- Establishment of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment & Research in Lahore (valued at Rs. 52,772.520 million) (Financing Source: Annual Development Programme (ADP), Government of Punjab)
• The PC-I outlines the provision of affordable, high-quality, and comprehensive cancer treatment through a 915-bed Institute of Cancer and Research in Lahore. This facility will offer a range of cancer-related healthcare services, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and palliative care. Additionally, the project plans to provide care for terminally ill patients.
The institute will employ a team of highly skilled professionals, including medical and engineering experts, technologists, and administrative staff. Construction will take place on government-owned land.
- Sindh Livestock and Aquaculture Development Project (valued at Rs. 38,360 million) (Financing Source: World Bank Assistance)
• This initiative comprises two main components aimed at improving livestock and fisheries sectors through enhanced management practices and institutional strengthening. It will also focus on promoting climate-smart production, value chain development, and equitable market access for dairy, meat, animal products, and fisheries.
- Construction of the 84 MW Gorkin Matiltan Hydropower Project (Revised) (valued at Rs. 35,758 million) (Financing Source: 20% from provincial ADP; 80% from KP Hydel Development Fund)
- Transportation & Communications Sector Projects:
- • Road construction and widening from Sibi-Talli (25 km)
- • Kohlu-Rakhni (91 km Revised) (valued at Rs. 8,401.227 million)
- • Upgradation of Jaglot-Sakradu Road (S-I) (64 km) (valued at Rs. 33,270.600 million)
- • Construction of the Rathoua Haryam Bridge across the Reservoir Channel on the Mirpur-Islamabad Road (valued at Rs. 9,239.534 million)
