Economic Woes Result in Less Electricity Usage in Dec

Economic woes continued with rising electricity tariffs compelled the consumers to reduce less resulting in falling electricity usage by 9 percent in December 2023.
The usage in December amounted to 7626 GwH as compared with 8417 GWH consumed in December 2022, the government data said.
The electricity generated through hydel projects was on top generating nearly 1859 Gwh showing a rise of 8 percent whereas share in overall generation also topped with 24.4 percent share.
From coal-fired plants generation was up by 11% to 1694 Gwh, nuclear down by 36 percent to 1464 Gwh, RLNG up by 10 percent to 1268 Gwh, and gas down by 35 percent to 826 Gwh.Check IESCO Bill Online| Download IESCO Duplicate Bill April 2023
In the six months of the fiscal year electricity generation was almost at the same level as compared with the corresponding period last year.
The generation was around 68887 Gwh as compared to 68571 Gwh in the same period last year.
The average of the energy mix in December was Rs 10.30 per unit and in six months it worked out to be Rs 8.2 per unit which showed that consumers are bearing a huge burden of taxes, fuel adjustments, and other costs, raising the rate to almost Rs 40 to Rs 50 per unit.
