Electricity bills in October 2022: Consumers to face Rs 4.34 increase
Consumers of electricity are set to face a Rs 4.34 per unit increase in electricity bills in 2022 due to a hike in power tariff on account of fuel adjustment.
Nepra has given a green signal to increase rates by Rs 4.34 per unit which will reflect in electricity bills in October 2022.
In another application, Nepra has also indicated reducing the power tariff by Rs 4.10 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for consumers of K-Electric in Karachi. This reduction will also reflect in electricity bills in October 2022.
The power regulator held a public hearing at Nepra headquarters regarding fuel adjustment for the month of July 2022 of DISCOs, Nepra said in a statement.
Chairman NEPRA Mr. Engineer Tauseef H. Farooqui presided over the meeting.
CPPAG on behalf of power distribution companies (Discos) had submitted a request for an increase of Rs 4.69 per unit under fuel adjustment for the month of July.
According to a preliminary check of data, the increase comes to Rs 4.34 per unit, Nepra said during a public hearing.
Earlier, customers were charged Rs 9.90 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for the month of June 2022, which was applicable only for one month, Nepra said.
Consumers will be charged Rs 5.55 per unit less on account of fuel adjustment (FCA) for July compared to June 2022, Nepra said adding that it will also be applicable for one month only.
This will be applicable to all DISCOS customers except Lifeline customers, Nepra said adding that it will also not apply to electric consumers.
The Nepra will scrutinize the data further before issuing a detailed decision.
KE Tariff increase in Electricity Bills in October 2022
National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) also indicated reducing the power tariff from Rs 3.63 to Rs 4.10 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for consumers of K-Electric (KE).
The power regulator also conducted a public hearing at Nepra headquarters regarding fuel adjustment for the month of July 2022.
KE had also submitted an application to increase the power tariff by Rs 14.53 per unit on account of the fourth quarter adjustment of the financial year 2021-22.
The regulator conducted a public hearing to consider a reduction in power tariff on account of fuel adjustment and quarterly adjustment.
The public hearing was presided over by Chairman NEPRA Mr. Engineer Tauseef H. Farooqui, NEPRA members Engineer Rafiq Ahmad Shaikh and Engineer Maqsood Anwar Khan.
K Electric had submitted a request for an increase of Rs 14.53 per unit in the fourth quarter adjustment of the financial year 2021-2022, Nepra said.
K Electric had submitted a request for a reduction of Rs 3.48 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for the month of July 2022.
Earlier, consumers were charged with an increase of Rs 11.10 per unit on account of fuel adjustment for the month of June 2022, which was also applicable for one month only, Nepra said adding that a reduction in power tariff for the month of July will also be applicable for one month only.
