Nepra indicates Rs 5.95 per unit hike in electricity rates in Pakistan

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Monday indicated a massive increase of Rs 5.95 per unit increase in electricity rates in Pakistan on account of fuel adjustment for the month of January 2022.
NEPRA held a public hearing in its headquarter on Discus’s monthly fuel charges adjustment.
The public hearing was chaired by NEPRA Chairman Tauseef H. Farooqi.
NEPRA members Rehmatullah Baloch, Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh, and Engineer Maqsood Anwar Khan were also present in the hearing.
According to the statement, CPPAG had submitted a request for a Rs 6:10 per unit hike on account of fuel adjustment.
According to the preliminary examination of the data by Nepra, an increase in tariff has been estimated at Rs 5.95 per unit.
Earlier, in December, electricity customers were charged Rs 3.10 per unit in January, which was only for one month.
The authority will issue its detailed decision after further scrutiny of the data, NEPRA said.

In its application, the CCPA-G said that the share of coal in total electricity was 33.15% at Rs 14.1 per unit cost.
Hydropower plants contributed 5.83% to total power generation.
Furnace oil-based Power plants produced 14.07 percent most expensive electricity at a cost of Rs 22.8 per unit.
High-speed diesel-based power plants also produced 6.73% at the highest rate of Rs25.98 per unit.
RLNG based power plants also generated expensive power at Rs 16.7 per unit and its share was 7.12 percent in total electricity generation.
However, indigenous gas produced cheaper electricity at a cost of Rs 7.7 per unit and contributed 14.37% of the electricity. Nuclear fuel contributed in 14.37% of the total production, wind 2.22%, and bagasse 1.22%. The cost of nuclear fuel-based electricity was Rs 1.075 per unit.
Electricity imported from Iran contributed 0.36% of electricity at a rate of Rs 15 per unit. The share of solar power was 0.53%.
