Electricity Restoration Progress in flood-hit areas
Power division has said in a statement that electricity has been fully restored in 341 feeders and 231 partially revived restoration work across flood-affected regions. It said that some areas await water recession for full repairs.
The Power Division has released a detailed progress report on electricity restoration efforts in flood-affected regions up to September 19.
It outlines significant advances in multiple power distribution companies’ areas. The report also highlighted that as many as 51 grids and 579 feeders had been damaged during recent flooding.
As many as 341 feeders have been fully restored, while 231 feeders are partially back online. It said that restoration efforts continue where floodwaters remain standing.
In Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) areas, flooding had resulted in damaging 28 grids and 81 feeders. Of these, the electricity utility had fully restored 49 feeders and 32 partially.
The report further noted that around 33,535 affected consumers in FESCO regions may witness electricity fully restored between September 19 and 20. The utility, which covers key agricultural and industrial zones, has faced particular strain due to flood-related infrastructure damage.
Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) reported a faster recovery rate. It has fully restored 66 out of 67 affected feeders while only one remains partially functional.
Electricity restoration for its 441 affected consumers may be completed by September 20. The Power Division confirmed it has already restored electricity in LESCO-administered districts, including Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, and Okara. These areas are critical urban and peri-urban hubs where power restoration directly impacts both households and commercial activities.
In Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) areas, the situation has been more challenging. Out of 181 feeders damaged, 17 have been fully restored. However, 157 feeders have seen partial restoration.Check IESCO Bill Online| Download IESCO Duplicate Bill 2024
Full-scale restoration efforts in MEPCO’s operational areas will only commence once floodwaters recede. It underscored the severity of flooding in southern Punjab. Historically, MEPCO has faced recurrent infrastructure challenges due to monsoon rains. But this year’s flooding has once again exposed vulnerabilities in the region’s electricity distribution system.
In the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) regions, 11 grids and 103 feeders were damaged. The utility has completed restoration work on 101 feeders fully and partial restoration on two feeders.
However, for 204 affected consumers, the Power Division said electricity restoration will only be finalized once water levels recede in inundated areas. Gujranwala and adjoining industrial belts rely heavily on an uninterrupted electricity supply. Therefore, restoration of electricity in this area is critical for regional economic activity.
The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has made notable progress and restored 88 feeders fully, whereas work on three feeders has been done partially. The company has restored electricity in key districts, including Swat, Swabi, and Dera Ismail Khan.
The Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (TESCO) reported 18 feeders in North Waziristan and Khyber were affected. Of these, it has fully restored electricity on 17 feeders while one remains partially active. The report noted that around 996 affected consumers in TESCO regions may get electricity by September 20.
In Hazara Electric Supply Company (HAZECO) areas, all three affected feeders in Mansehra were fully restored, according to the Power Division. Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) has temporarily restored electricity on 35 feeders and provided partial relief to flood-hit communities.
