Engro increases price of Urea by Rs 100 per bag

Engro Fertilizer has increased the price of urea by Rs 100 per bag today to put more burden on the farmers.

The price of urea has gone up to Rs 2017 per bag from Rs 1917 per bag, effective from April 21, 2022.

Engro is a company that had billions through the sale of urea but did not deposit Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC).

Now, its new fertilizer plant has completed its contract of ten years. But it had obtained a stay order from the court to continue subsidized gas supply.

It is also alarming that they had been receiving subsidized gas for new fertilizer plants but charging the same price that other plants running on expensive gas were charging.

DAP Price goes up by Rs 7000 Per Bag in PTI Tenure

All governments had put the farmers at the mercy of these fertilizer barons.

These fertilizer plants, including Engro and Fatima, received subsidized gas to provide cheaper urea to the farmers.

However, they had charged higher urea prices to plunder money from the farmers.

The previous government of PTI had decided to form a new fertilizer policy to charge the market price of gas from these fertilizer plants.

However, they could not be able to approve a new fertilizer policy.

The sowing season is going on, and Engro has raised the price to make more money at farmers’ cost.

The government of PTI had also discontinued charging gas infrastructure development cess (GIDC).

At that time, fertilizer plants had cut the prices of urea. However, later they started increasing costs, and now they had diluted the impact of gas infrastructure development cess.

Moreover, they had not paid billions of rupees GIDC to the government.

The PPP government had imposed GIDC on gas to build mega pipeline projects like TAPI and IP.

However, these fertilizer barons had collected billions from the farmers, but they did not deposit them into the national exchequer.
