Govt to Set Up National Institute of Intelligence and Security Studies

The government is likely to set up the National Institute of Intelligence and Security Studies (NISS) to prepare personnel for the senior position of the Intelligence Community.
The intelligence community will help decision-makers to formulate policies in the country.
The education ministry had proposed the government establish the National Institute of Intelligence and Security Studies (NISS) in Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad.
The government has also earmarked a suitable piece of land in the premises of Quaid-i-Azam University for the NISS building.
The university may also provide a temporary facility for starting classroom activities. The intelligence community in Pakistan had played a key role in tackling security challenges.
It also remained as a first line of the national defense.
At present, the country is facing a number of training institutes to groom practitioners. However, there is a gap in the educational development of the national intelligence community.
It created a room to introduce a new discipline of ‘intelligence and security studies at undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels to enhance knowledge about different strands of intelligence.
In order to bridge this gap, the education ministry had planned to establish NISS to educate the national intelligence community to play its role in an effective manner.
The emerging middle class in Pakistan
The ministry had proposed the vice-chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam university to be chairman board of governors of the institute.
The NISS will offer a BS ISS (Bachelors of science Intelligence and security studies degree with majors in intelligence and security studies and cyber technology.
It will also offer two year MS ISS (Masters of science Intelligence and Security Studies) degree with majors in intelligence and security studies and cyber technology.
The degree work will consist of systematic research and a thesis describing research work, specifically directed at the division of major subject the scholar had chosen.
the National Institute of Intelligence and Security Studies (NISS) will also offer post-graduate diplomas and certificates, short duration courses (two-semester and single semester) facilitating the in-service IC to improve their knowledge base and accumulate credit hours to pursue further studies.
