US intensifying Humanitarian Crisis in Afghanistan

At present, the crisis is looming in Afghanistan after the world abandons it after the Taliban takes over.

Taliban had taken over Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, and the US imposed sanctions.

International aid organizations and experts had pointed out that these sanctions were leading to a humanitarian crisis.

Now, the food crisis is also looming.

Experts believed that the sudden withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan had led to another crisis in the country.

The US had intensified this crisis after it imposed sanctions and abandoned the country.

Afghanistan faced isolation after international financial institutions cut off and the US had frozen around $10 billion of its assets.

Mistake of Abandoning Afghanistan

UN special representative in Afghanistan had told the UN that abandoning Afghanistan would be a historic mistake.

Now, Afghanistan is facing a food crisis. With the passage of time, as many as 23 million Afghans were moving towards food insecurity.

He had also called for immediate steps to address the issue of the looming humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

The country is also facing economic collapse which needs urgent action to resolve the issue.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had been pleading with the world to come forward to bail out Afghanistan that is facing a food crisis. Premier had also warned that there would be a civil war in Afghanistan.

Experts also say that the US should take steps to unfreeze the funds of Afghanistan to allow the functioning of Afghan government institutions. It will also help them to function in schools and hospitals.

SCO and OIC

There are two forums that could also help Afghanistan. They are the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and OIC.

SCO and OIC had also met after the withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan and subsequently take over of Afghan Taliban.

China and Russia are active members of SCO.

OIC is a body of Muslim countries. These two bodies should come forward to take immediate steps to extend aid to Afghanistan to avert the looming food crisis.

China and Russia are active members of the SCO. They could also use this forum to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

The world must know that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan may lead to civil war in the country.

If there is a crisis in Afghanistan, it will impact the entire region that may be a bigger threat to distability.

United States (US) had already created a crisis in Afghanistan after 9/11.

Now, its sudden withdrawal from Afghanistan and imposing sanctions on the Taliban government have caused another crisis.

Due to freezing funds and imposing sanctions, different countries and aid agencies are facing problems extending aid to Afghanistan.
