The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced plans to introduce 10,000 electric rickshaws in Peshawar, aiming to provide affordable, eco-friendly, and modern public transport.
A high-level meeting in Peshawar, chaired by the Secretary of Transport and Mass Transit, brought together officials from the Urban Mobility Authority, TransPeshawar, Science and IT, and the Bank of Khyber.
Officials discussed a phased rollout, financial support, technical frameworks, employment opportunities, and the environmental benefits of e-rickshaws for the city.
The Secretary of Transport said the chief minister’s vision is to offer low-cost travel options, reduce air pollution, and improve urban mobility, while lowering fuel costs for commuters.

The DG of Science and IT confirmed that advanced battery technology, smart monitoring systems, and digital registration will ensure efficiency, transparency, and real-time tracking of e-rickshaws.
The KP Urban Mobility Authority’s Managing Director explained that e-rickshaws would integrate with the city’s Bus Rapid Transit system to improve last-mile connectivity and door-to-door travel for residents.
The Secretary of Transport concluded that the initiative reflects people-centric, environmentally friendly policies, aiming to enhance mobility, generate jobs, and advance green energy goals in the province.
