Lahore Police have finalised recommendations to introduce a modern E-Tag vehicle system and forwarded proposal to Home Department.

The proposed system aims to strengthen urban security, reduce vehicle-related crime and improve traffic monitoring digitally citywide operations.

Under the proposal, E-Tag is an electronic chip embedded in number plates storing verified vehicle data for scanning.

Officials say the system will help trace stolen vehicles, stop fake number plates, identify unregistered cars on roads.

Rising traffic volumes and vehicle crime in Lahore have made manual checks increasingly ineffective, police officials say there.

Police believe digitising vehicle records through E-Tags will close loopholes exploited by criminals across city roads, networks, effectively.

A senior police official said E-Tag enables real-time monitoring of vehicles entering and exiting Lahore city limits continuously.

The system would allow faster responses to security threats and traffic violations through coordinated action by authorities citywide.

If approved, the project could mark a significant shift toward technology-driven policing in Punjab’s capital Lahore, future, operations.
