LHC Rejects Honda Atlas Cars Appeal Against CCP
In a major development, the Lahore High Court has rejected Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited’s attempt to transfer its appeal against the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) to the court of to justice Anwal-ul-Haq. The court has now fixed October 13, 2025, for final arguments.
The automaker, allegedly accused of involving in consumer exploitation through premium payments, delayed deliveries, and price escalations, had challenged CCP’s jurisdiction to probe its practices. The court, however, refused HACL’s request to shift the matter and directed both sides to argue on merits without further delay.
The CCP is represented by Advocate Asad Chatta. CCP’s counsel told the court that the inquiry was initiated in 2018, has been stalled since 2023 due to Honda’s legal maneuvers. CCP Counsel assured the bench that if allowed to proceed, the probe would be wrapped up within six months once the stay lifts.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CCP has not passed any adverse action against Hunda and had only requested information and data to asses the allegations, but the company challenged the CCP action and halting the CCP’s proceedings through one or another way.
Despite five official notices from 2018 to 2022, Honda failed to fully cooperate, instead filing multiple petitions to stall accountability. The Commission maintains that it had a valid quorum at the time of launching the inquiry, which covers potential violations of Sections 3 and 4 of the Competition Act, 2010.
With thirteen carmakers now in the market—up from just three when the probe began—the CCP insists Honda’s delaying tactics are aimed at shielding itself from scrutiny, while the regulator seeks to set a precedent on consumer rights and fair competition in Pakistan’s auto sector.
