Ogra notifies increase in LPG price by Rs 19 per kg

Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has increased the price of LPG by Rs. 19 per kg.

It has issued a notification for an increase in LPG price for the month of July 2021.

After increasing the price of LPG to Rs 19 per kg, there has been an increase of Rs 244 per domestic cylinder and Rs 863 per commercial cylinder.

The official production price increased by Rs. 16,101 per metric tonne. Now LPG will be available at Rs 160 per kg instead of Rs 141 per kg, a domestic cylinder at Rs 1872 instead of Rs 1677, and a commercial cylinder at Rs 7166 instead of Rs 6415.

For the first time since last summer, LPG prices are increasing. The price has reached a historic high. The Jamshoro joint venture was shut down last year. SSGC has lost billions of rupees due to the closure of the Jamshoro joint venture.

The Jamshoro joint venture should be started immediately. In order to provide cheap LPG to people, the government should make imports tax-free in the LPG policy for 2021.

LPG, like LNG, should be tax-free, so that people can benefit from relief and abundance, LPG should be available. Irfan Khokhar Chairman LPG distributors association said.

Earlier, the LPG price was up by Rs. 5 per kg. The government has already increased the prices of petroleum products.

The price of LPG in Pakistan is already higher today and the recent increase will add miseries of the consumers.

The increase in the price of LPG is another blow to the consumers. The people living in remote areas of Pakistan are dependent on LPG for cooking purposes because kerosene oil is not available there.

For the first time in two years, the price of LPG has exceeded the official price. The LPG industry had increased the price of LPG by Rs. 5 per kg. According to details, Chairman LPG Association Irfan Khokhar said that in June 2021, OGRA had fixed the price of LPG for consumers at Rs 141 per kg, Rs 1,667 for domestic cylinders and Rs 6,401 for commercial cylinders.

The production price has been increased by Rs 5,000 per metric tonne. As a result, the cylinders of poor consumers have been increased by Rs 5 per kg, domestic cylinders by Rs 60, and commercial cylinders by Rs 240. LPG is the fuel of the poor.

Due to corona lockdowns, people are already suffering from economic conditions. People are not getting two times meals a day. It will be the fuel for poor consumers. The government has already increased the price of Petroleum products and imposing tax directly on the people.

If it continues like this, it will be difficult for people to earn a living. Irfan Khokhar further said urged the government to abandon a plan of imposing a tax on LPG importers through land routes in LPG Policy 2021. State-owned enterprises OGDCL and PARCO have increased the production price of LPG from Rs 70,000 per metric tonne to Rs 75,000 per metric tonne.

Earlier, OGRA has increased the price of LPG by Rs 8 per kg effective from June 1, 2021, in line with fluctuation in global prices.

In a notification issued on Monday (today), OGRA increased the LPG price by Rs 8 per kg in Pakistan today to 141, Rs 1667 per Domestic Cylinder, and 6415 Rupee Commercial Cylinder.

Government should immediately remove all taxes on the import of LPG through land routes to reduce the price of LPG. All LPG traders have announced a strike from June 30.

Chairman LPG Industries Association Irfan Khokhar at a press conference held on Monday at a local hotel called for removing taxes in LPG policy 2021 on import of LPG through land route. It will help further reduce the per kg price of LPG in Pakistan today. There are a lot of taxes on the import of LPG which are irrational.

Khokhar said that taxing the land route LPG import would be detrimental to the people of Balochistan. He said that the LPG industry was importing  70% of LPG while local producers were producing 30% locally.

 Chairman LPG Irfan Khokhar announced a deadline of June 30 to remove taxes in a bid to reduce the price of LPG.

There will be a nationwide strike from June 30 in case government does not shelve a plan of imposing tax on LPG via land route, he warned and demanded to impose a 5.5 percent advance income tax LPG imports by sea route.

Ilyas Baloch said the government was trying to impose tax in the next budget on LPG imports via land and some people were misguiding the higher authorities.

He said that the Prime Minister had said that 72% of LPG was being used but the tax on LPG was higher than that of all other gases.

In response to a question, Amir Nadeem said that taxes on LPG import through land route would lead to hiking price of LPG. He also called for distributing local LPG equally among all companies without the signature bonus.
