LPG Association suggests formula to cut rate by Rs100 per kg
LAHORE: The LPG Industries Association of Pakistan has proposed the new government slash LPG prices in Pakistan by Rs 100 per kg to provide relief to the poor.
The association has welcomed the new and popular government, led by PML-N, and keeping in view the efforts and noble intentions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to bring respite to the life of the masses.
It has been proposed the government implement the new formula to reduce the prices of LPG in Pakistan. The current official rate of LPG can be reduced by about Rs 100 per kg (50%).
LPG Industries Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar said the task can be achieved by following the formula of association.
Fix/ freeze the LPG producer base price at Rs 40.000/- per metric tonne.
Increase local LPG production
Allocate locally produced LPG to those OGRA-licensed marketing companies that will include 50% imported LPG in their monthly sale (as was practised during the tenure of Dr Asim Hussain, former minister for petroleum, on one price while ending all taxes from LPG.
Last, but not least Asia’s largest plant Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL), has been closed for two years and has caused a loss of Rs. 50 billion to the national exchequer, should be started immediately.
“Mr PM please give this severely needed sigh of relief to the people immediately as the government can reduce the price of LPG without giving anything from itself and thus no burden on the national kitty.”
LPG Association Chairman calls for reopening JJVL LPG Plant
Elaborating, Mr Khokhar said LPG is the fuel of poor consumers which is out of their reach. The price of LPG has increased by 173% in the last two years. The official price has gone up from Rs 90 per kg to Rs 247 per kg.
The prices of locally produced LPG have gone up from Rs 37,000 per metric tonne to Rs 171,551.88 per metric tonne in Pakistan. The LPG industry should be saved from catastrophe.
Reducing the price of Pakistan’s five largest LPG producers will provide affordable LPG to the country’s poor consumers and there will be a marked reduction in deforestation thus the dream of a Greener Pakistan will come true easily.
LPG Industries Association Chairman Mr Khokhar said, “We appreciate Mr Prime Minister your efforts for the prosperity of poor people of Pakistan. We admire your vision for Pakistan and we assure you of our full cooperation in regard to the betterment of the LPG Industry.
“You are delivering to poor people of Pakistan and we hope that you will continue doing so in future as well. LPG Industries Association of Pakistan have always suggested Government for the betterment of LPG Industry and we want to express our recommendations after this scenario of price hike which have threaten the worst LPG crisis for poor LPG consumers in the history of Pakistan.”
Mr Khokhar said he recently met newly elected National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and presented these aspirations before them. They highly appreciated the suggestions and assured their all-out support in bringing them to the notice of Mr Prime Minister.
