Govt Refuses to Recognize new Medical Colleges without Framework

The federal government has refused to recognize new medical colleges due to the absence of an approved framework.
Ministry of Health has informed the policymakers that it is preparing a new comprehensive framework to recognize new medical colleges.
Health Ministry had tabled two medical colleges to recognize them. They included Fazaia Ruth PPAU Medical College, Karachi, and Swat Medical College, Swat.
The ministry sought approval from the cabinet in a recent meeting.
During the meeting, it was clarified that the Law & Justice Division had advised the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination to seek approval of the Cabinet in this case.
One Cabinet member raised the question regarding the name Fazia being used by a private institute and opined that private organizations should not use such names that create the deception of their being a public entity.
The cabinet members also felt that an approved framework was necessary for private medical and dental institutions.
The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination informed that they were preparing a new comprehensive framework under the PM&DC Act, 2022, and that cases of such private institutions could be processed once the exercise had been completed.

The Cabinet considered the summary titled ‘Recognition of Medical Colleges under Section 21 PM&DC Act 2022″ submitted by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation & Coordination and deferred the case.
The Ministry was also directed to design and implement a new framework under the PM&DC Act, 2022 for the private medical colleges, etc.
