Meta Leak Hints at Bold Shift to AI Wearables
Meta’s vision for the future of personal technology briefly surfaced online when the company accidentally published a promotional video of its upcoming AI-powered smart glasses.
The video, quickly taken down from Meta’s YouTube channel, revealed a product lineup that highlights how wearables may soon replace smartphones as the main way users engage with digital content.
At the center of this lineup is the Ray-Ban Hypernova, a flagship model equipped with a heads-up display (HUD).
Unlike Meta’s earlier smart glasses, which focused on audio playback and simple photography, the Hypernova projects real-time information such as maps, texts, and notifications directly into the user’s field of view. This marks Meta’s most significant move toward integrating augmented reality into everyday life.

Supporting this device is a new EMG wrist controller, designed to read muscle activity in the hand and wrist. This innovation allows users to control the glasses with subtle gestures, bypassing the need for touchscreens or voice commands. Industry experts say this interface could prove groundbreaking in how humans interact with AI.
The video also showcased the Oakley Meta Sphaera, aimed at athletes and fitted with a central frame camera for performance capture. Refreshes of Meta’s existing Ray-Ban and Oakley lines were also included.
The timing of the leak has added anticipation ahead of Meta Connect, where the company is expected to confirm specifications, pricing, and launch details. Early reports suggest the Hypernova could sell for around $800, placing it firmly in the premium category.
