NADRA Verification Required for Peshawar BRT Zu Cards
Passengers using the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system must now complete biometric verification of their Zu Cards through NADRA. This registration requirement has been introduced by TransPeshawar to enhance passenger identification and boost the overall security of the transit system.
Registration Process and Deadline
Commuters can register their Zu Cards at ticket counters present in every Peshawar BRT station during regular operating hours. To complete the process, users need to present their original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) along with the Zu Card. Station personnel will document passenger details and perform biometric verification.
A nominal fee of Rs10 is charged for the registration. TransPeshawar has set a firm deadline for this process: all Zu Cards must be registered by December 31, 2026. Cards that remain unregistered beyond this date will be deactivated and unusable from January 1, 2027 onwards.
Special Provisions for Minors and Foreigners
Passengers under 18 years are also eligible to register their cards. They can do so by presenting a B-Form and the Zu Card, alongside biometric verification. Alternatively, a parent or guardian may register the card on the child’s behalf using their CNIC while being physically present for biometric confirmation.
For foreign nationals traveling on the Peshawar BRT, the biometric registration is not mandatory. They may continue to use the Zu App or purchase single journey tickets for travel.
Significance for Pakistani Commuters
This new NADRA verification policy is an important development for commuters in Peshawar as it not only strengthens security but also promises a more organized and efficient public transport experience. In the broader context of Pakistan’s advancing urban transit infrastructure, mandatory biometric verification aligns with efforts to modernize services and prevent misuse.
Azka Ali, an automotive analyst, noted, “This step will help ensure that travel on the BRT remains safe and streamlined for everyone.” Given the deadline approaching at the end of 2026, regular users of the Peshawar BRT are advised to complete the process early to avoid long queues and avoid interruptions in their commute.
