A spokesperson for the Power Division said industries of all sizes benefited from a Rs10.3 per unit concession on the use of surplus electricity. The package aims to encourage higher industrial consumption and absorb excess generation capacity.

Under the scheme, a total of 1,176m units were sold to industries over two months. These units accounted for 23.80% of total industrial electricity sales during the period, according to official figures.

In December 2025 alone, industries purchased 557m units under the package. That represented 23% of total industrial units sold in the month, the spokesperson said.

The number of consumers benefiting from the scheme in December stood at 125,829. These users made up 45% of total industrial consumers during the month.

In January 2026, industrial consumers purchased 619m units under the surplus power package. The sale of these units delivered savings of more than Rs6.38bn to consumers, the Power Division said.

The number of beneficiaries in January rose to 46% of total industrial consumers, reflecting wider uptake of the incentive scheme.

Officials said the package was designed to stimulate industrial activity by offering lower tariffs on surplus electricity, helping manufacturers manage input costs amid broader economic challenges.

Power Minister Awais Leghari remains committed to taking positive steps for the industrial sector, the spokesperson said. The minister is personally overseeing the implementation of the measures and regularly reviewing progress updates.

The government has been focusing on boosting industrial output and improving capacity utilisation in the power sector. Authorities say higher electricity consumption by industry can reduce capacity payments and improve overall efficiency in the energy system.
