Pakistan Receives First Large Batch of IMO-Compliant Marine Fuel

Vitol, together with Pakistan’s largest oil refiner Cnergyico, has delivered the country’s largest single shipment of very low sulfur fuel.

The shipment will allow vessels refueling in Pakistan to sail longer east-to-west routes without requiring additional stops at other ports.

This development also strengthens Pakistan’s local supply of environmentally compliant marine fuel, meeting global shipping standards for low-sulfur emissions.

Cnergyico produced this batch as its first large-scale very low sulfur fuel oil, following US crude oil imports in August and September.

The VLSFO was delivered to an MSC-operated vessel at Port Qasim using Singapore-flagged bunker barge Marine Ista, supplying 6,800 metric tons in one go.

This marks the first time a barge loaded fuel directly from Karachi Port Trust’s Oil Pier, avoiding the need for truck deliveries.

Cnergyico confirmed that it will continue providing Vitol with cleaner marine fuel, ensuring sustainable supply for vessels operating from Pakistan’s ports.

“This initiative enhances Pakistan’s capacity to serve the global shipping industry with environmentally friendly and sustainable fuel solutions,” said Cnergyico Director Aumar Abbassciy.

Vitol’s new bunker locations in Pakistan will include Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Karachi Anchorage, expanding refueling options for international vessels.

The shipment aligns Pakistan’s maritime fuel sector with International Maritime Organization low-sulfur standards, improving compliance with global environmental regulations.
