Pakistan Signs Key Pipeline Agreement

ISLAMABAD: In a notable advancement for Pakistan’s energy sector, the signing event for the Consortium Agreement among the stakeholders for the Machike-Thallian-Tarujabba White Oil Pipeline Project took place on September 4, 2024, at the SIFC Secretariat, PM Office.


The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr. Musadik Malik, DG Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) Major General Asad Rehman, and Chairman OGRA Masroor Khan. Key figures from the consortium, including MD Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Syed Muhammad Taha and DG Frontier Works Organization (FWO) Major General Abdul Sami, endorsed the historic Consortium Agreement.

Additionally, MD PSO and DG FWO executed another MOU with stakeholders such as CEO PAPCO Mr. Irtiza Qureshi and MD Interstate Gas Systems (ISGS) Mr. Nadeem Bajwa. The pipeline project underscores the dedication of the Petroleum Division and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). The Machike-Thallian-Taru Jabba White Oil Pipeline (MTT-WOP) is designed to complete the oil pipeline network from Karachi to Peshawar, focusing on efficient transportation of petroleum products, curbing adulteration, and enhancing safety. It will connect Punjab from Machike, near Lahore, to Tarujabba, near Peshawar.


The pipeline comprises two segments: Machike-Thallian and Thallian-Tarujabba along the Motorway, with connectivity options to Attock refinery, Chakpirana, and Faqirabad. It completes the supply chain infrastructure from Karachi to Peshawar. This flagship project, led by FWO and supported collectively by PSO, PARCO, and ISGS, stretches 477 km and aims to ensure a continuous supply chain of petroleum products from Karachi to Peshawar with an initial capacity of 7 MTPA, expandable to 10 MTPA.


The Machike-Thalian-Taru Jabba White Oil Pipeline is a crucial element in Pakistan’s plan to improve its energy supply chain. It is intended to secure and streamline the transportation of white oil products nationwide, reducing reliance on road transport, minimizing environmental impact, and enhancing overall distribution efficiency.


The signing of this consortium agreement signifies the start of the project’s implementation phase, with construction set to begin soon. The consortium partners are dedicated to completing the project within the planned timeline while upholding the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
