PM to inaugurate upgraded Islamabad–Murree Expressway soon
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Wednesday reviewed the final development works on the Islamabad–Murree Expressway, announcing that the Prime Minister will soon inaugurate the upgraded route connecting the capital with the popular hill station.
During his visit, the minister expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of work, commending the National Highway Authority (NHA) for modernizing the Expressway to international standards. The project, he said, would provide safer, smoother and more comfortable travel for the hundreds of thousands of visitors who travel annually to Murree, one of Pakistan’s busiest tourist destinations.

Aleem Khan noted that the entire Expressway has been fitted with a modern lighting system to improve nighttime visibility and reduce accident risks. The deployment of Motorway Police along the route will further ensure smooth traffic flow and assistance to commuters.
The minister also announced that new, fully equipped rest areas have been constructed to provide travelers with essential facilities, including food outlets, washrooms, and emergency support. He said the project reflects the government’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure and promoting domestic tourism.
According to NHA officials, the Islamabad–Murree Expressway upgrade is part of a broader national connectivity and road safety plan aimed at improving regional accessibility and supporting the tourism-driven economy of northern Pakistan. The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the project later this month.
