President Arif Alvi’s salary up by over 1000 %

Islamabad: President Arif Alvi’s salary is up as Prime Minister Imran Khan has given go-ahead to implement over 1000 percent increase in the salary and approves supplementary grant of Rs 9.3 million for the ongoing financial year 2018-19. The government has allocated an annual salary of Rs 2.441 million for the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
This is contrary to the austerity drive launched by the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to cut expenses. The cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved an increase in Arif Alvi’s salary following the request of the President’s secretariat. The previous government had approved raise in salary.

The salary of President Arif Alvi was Rs 80,000 per month during the previous regime of PML-N. The government has hiked to Rs 846550 per month registering a sharp increase of over 1000 percent. The previous government had allocated Rs 0.1 million on account of salary during the budget of the ongoing financial year 2018-19 and the PTI government has approved a supplementary grant of Rs 9.3 million to pay salary to President Arif Alvi.

The government had allocated a budget during the financial year 2018-19. The allocation is Rs 1, 00,000 which is insufficient to meet the actual expenditure under the respective code due to an increase in the salary of President Arif Alvi from Rs 80,000 per month to Rs 846,550 per month with effect from June 1, 2018.
Sponsoring ministry informed the salary of the President increased from Rs 80,000 per month to Rs 846,550 per month with effect from June 1, 2018.Therefore, the budget grant allocation of Rs 100,000 during the financial year 2018-19 is insufficient to meet the actual expenditure under respective code.
The President’s secretariat had requested to approve an amount of Rs 9.387 million during the current financial year through a supplementary grant. In terms of article 84 of the constitution, the federal government has the power to authorize supplementary and excess grants.
It was therefore submitted that the cabinet may approve the supplementary grant of Rs 9.38 million during the current financial year to meet the expenditure under the subject code salary of President Arif Alvi. The cabinet considered the summary for the release of a supplementary grant for Rs 9.38 million on account of revision in the salary of the President of Pakistan and approved it.
Pakistan Prime Minister Salary
The government had allocated Rs 2.441 million salary for the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Earlier, the finance ministry had proposed to allocate the annual gross salary of the Prime Minister of Pakistan at Rs 2.441 million in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2021-22.
Parliament had approved the budget and therefore, the prime minister will be drawing an annual salary of Rs 2.441 million in the ongoing financial year 2021-22.
In addition to salary, the finance ministry had proposed an amount of Rs 210.80 million on account of expenses for the Prime Minister (PM) house for the ongoing financial year.
Finance Ministry had also recommended an amount of Rs30 million on account of salaries and other benefits the premier’s advisers. It had allocated an amount of Rs29 million for special assistants.
The current gross remuneration of the Prime Minister stands out at Rs201, 574.
President House
The government had allocated a budget for the President House at Rs1.020 billion, with Rs405 million for salaries and other expenses of the president’s public office employees and Rs615 million for salaries and other expenses of the president’s personal office personnel.
