PTA Chairman Inspects Mobile Network in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman, Hafeez-ur-Rehman, conducted on-site evaluations of mobile voice and data services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi following the expiration of a deadline aimed at enhancing network quality in these cities.

Mobile Network Assessment Across Key Areas

During his inspection, the PTA chairman visited prominent locations including Blue Area, Sectors G-7, G-8, G-9, G-11, and Srinagar Highway to verify improvements. The chairman personally tested mobile call connectivity and performed software-based checks for internet speeds and data quality. Mobile operators accompanied him, and areas falling short of standards were immediately flagged for corrective actions.

Commitment to Service Quality and 5G Rollout

Hafeez-ur-Rehman emphasized that the PTA sets stringent requirements for telecom companies and will not tolerate poor service. “We will not compromise on service standards, nor grant exemptions to those failing to meet benchmarks,” he said. Besides focusing on current 4G network stability, the authority is also advancing efforts to ensure smooth 5G deployment. The chairman highlighted that PTA officials will increasingly engage in ground-level monitoring rather than limiting oversight to office settings.

Context and Importance for Pakistan

The October 31 deadline was established to close gaps in mobile coverage and improve network reliability in twin cities where rapid urban growth has heightened demand for seamless connectivity. The enhanced quality of telecom services directly benefits millions of users by supporting business activities, education, and communication. Reliable 4G and the gradual introduction of 5G technology are expected to drive Pakistan’s digital transformation forward, helping bridge the digital divide and support economic development.

Prior to the chairman’s field visit, PTA’s Director General Enforcement, Brigadier (retd) Amir Shahzad, had also conducted network drive tests at various strategic locations, identifying specific coverage deficiencies and directing quick remediation by telecom operators.
