The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has given conditional approval to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) for its acquisition of Telenor Pakistan

Officials said the regulator had asked PTCL to confirm whether it would accept the conditions attached to the merger and acquisition process.

PTCL later conveyed its unconditional acceptance, removing a regulatory hurdle that had stalled progress for months.

The decision enables final regulatory processing of the multi-billion-rupee transaction, a move expected to reshape market competition before the spectrum auction.

PTA’s approval shows satisfaction with PTCL’s commitments on service continuity, consumer protection, network integration, and post-merger compliance obligations.

Analysts say the deal will strengthen the position of PTCL Group as the second-largest operator in Pakistan while Telenor prepares to exit.
