Rana Sanaullah lauds UNESCO’s role in sports education
PARIS: Prime Minister’s Advisor on Inter Provincial Coordination, Rana Sanaullah Khan, has emphasized the importance of supporting international initiatives focused on utilizing sports for peace and development, aiming to create a promising future for upcoming generations.
He made these remarks during his visit to the UNESCO headquarters in Paris today, while attending the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics and representing Pakistan at the ‘Change the Game’ Ministerial Forum.
The Advisor also took part in a discussion centered on ‘Leveraging Quality Physical Education and Sport for Sustainable Social Legacies.’
He expressed gratitude to UNESCO for organizing this high-level forum leading up to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Rana Sanaullah highlighted that major sports events, such as the Olympics, serve as a unifying force by bringing together the global community in healthy competition – where everyone emerges as a winner.
He mentioned that physical education and sports offer productive avenues for individuals and societies to develop resilience and skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. He acknowledged that sports also teach discipline, foster friendships across borders, and play a positive role in promoting mutual understanding, celebrating cultural diversity, and enhancing the physical and mental health of youth.
The Advisor stated that UNESCO has a pivotal role in this domain and can support Member States through its capacity-building programs on physical education and sports.
