Romina terms women’s empowerment crucial for green economy goals

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Climate Change Advisor Romina Khurshid Alam has highlighted that women’s empowerment and gender equality are essential for reaching green economy objectives in Asian nations.

Romina Khurshid Alam noted with optimism that lawmakers from twenty Asian countries have shown political commitment to advancing women’s empowerment across various sectors to achieve green economy targets.

The participating legislators also collectively endorsed a twelve-point Islamabad Declaration on Gender Empowerment for Green Economy, aimed at addressing detrimental social and gender norms that hinder women’s potential.

The declaration calls for investments in emergency preparedness, proactive measures, and specific disaster risk reduction strategies, and further emphasizes the importance of data and evidence collection with a focus on the needs of vulnerable groups, including women.

It was agreed to foster supportive environments that eliminate discrimination against women and enable them to make informed choices about their lives.
