Inflows cross $1.5b in Roshan Pakistan Digital Account

Islamabad: The inflows have crossed $1.5 billion in Roshan Pakistan Digital Accounts (RDAs) from overseas Pakistanis in a bid to boost foreign reserves.

Prime Minister Imran Khan in a tweet said that there was good news from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). Premier further said that Pakistan had received more milestones in receiving inflow in Roshan Digital Accounts that cross $1.5 billion on Friday with an investment in Naya Pakistan Certificates surpassing $1 billion.

He further said that accounts and deposits had set a new record since the $1 billion even two months ago.

Pakistan had received $806 million in Roshan Digital Accounts (RDAs) from overseas Pakistanis till March 2021.

Pakistan receives $1b in Roshan Digital Accounts

PTI government had taken this step to bring dollars from overseas through legal channels to boost foreign exchange reserves. The overseas Pakistanis had given a welcome response and they had sent record money to Pakistan.

However, some critics say that overseas Pakistanis were taking loans abroad and then sending money to Pakistan.

The Governor State Bank of Pakistan had informed Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier in a meeting that Pakistan had received over $800 million in Roshan Digital Accounts (RDAs). He said that it was a good sign for Pakistan.

$671m received through Roshan Digital Accounts

Earlier Pakistan received over $671 million from over 100 countries in this account from overseas Pakistanis.

The deposits stood at $480 million till February 13 this year.

Pakistan receives $1b in Roshan Digital Accounts

In a tweet, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had said earlier that overseas Pakistanis had opened Roshan Digital Accounts from over 100 countries around the world.

It further said that deposits had reached $671 million. Out of the total, the country received half of this amount in the last 8 weeks alone.
