The Sindh government has banned photography in government girls’ colleges to prevent the misuse of students’ images on social media platforms, officials said in a formal notification.
College principals have been directed to strictly enforce the ban within all government college premises, aiming to curb unauthorised circulation of female students’ photographs online.
The notification follows an advisory from the Special Secretary for Colleges, after which the Regional Director of College Education Karachi issued official letters to all government colleges.
Officials explained the ban was introduced after multiple complaints regarding unauthorised photographs being shared on Facebook, WhatsApp, and other digital platforms, compromising the privacy and safety of female students.

The Special Secretary highlighted that some female teachers and students were secretly photographed, and the images were circulated online, prompting the authorities to act swiftly to protect their dignity.
College principals and staff have been instructed to ensure full compliance with the directive, with strict monitoring of campus activities and digital devices on college grounds.
Professor Qazi Irshad, Regional Director College Education Karachi, warned that disciplinary action would be taken against principals or staff who fail to enforce the photography ban.
The step reflects growing concern over digital misuse of images in educational institutions and the need to safeguard students’ privacy and security within college campuses.
Earlier, Punjab also imposed restrictions on mobile phone usage by teachers and students in schools, ensuring district education officers strictly enforce regulations to prevent misuse and maintain discipline.
